TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Agriculture is the backbone of Idaho, and that includes the dairy industry.

This week’s Behind the Business brings us to a staple in the dairy industry since the mid 1950′s.

Reed’s Dairy began in 1955, and since then they have been producing and selling dairy products to people of Idaho.

It started with just milk, but then they added in cheese and ice cream later, after current president Alan Reed came on board in 1979.

“All the product is manufactured, now this is prior to our fire, but all the product is manufactured at our location, and then we have a warehouse in Boise, and so we manufacture the product here and then ship it over to Boise and then it’s delivered out to our stores and the customers, we do home delivery over there in Boise, we have a store here in Twin Falls and of course we make deliveries, we deliver to customers and grocery stores all in southern Idaho,” said Alan Reed, the president of Reed’s Dairy.

In January a fire destroyed their processing plant building in Idaho Falls, but since then, the dairy community has rallied behind them to help them out by providing places for Reed’s Dairy to bottle their milk, make their ice cream recipe for them, and they have rented a walk in cooler for the time being.

“That’s kind of what has saved us through this fire situation, is the friendships I have with others and their willingness to help, everyone has been so kind to do whatever they need to do to give us a hand,” said Reed.

Reed says they are the epitome of farm to table and they have been since they started the business.

“Right from our dairy farm and put it in the stores, and we make it the way we have made it for years I mean it’s cream, milk and sugar, we don’t use a lot of other things, they are all very natural, they are all handmade, artisan type of products and it just makes a really good dairy product,” said Reed.

Reed’s Dairy has two stores in Idaho Falls, one in Twin Falls, one in Meridian, Boise and Kuna, as well as their main farm and dairy in Idaho Falls.

You can visit the store in Twin Falls which is located at 163 Cheney Drive West in Twin Falls. They are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“All of our stores, all of our ice cream and dairy stores, sell our ice cream, our cheese, a variety of dairy products, as well as the ice cream, and you can get an ice cream cone there where you can scoop the ice cream,” said Reed.

They are going to be rebuilding their processing plant and plan to begin the construction in October.

Reed thanks everyone for their support during this period.
