Fit and Well: National IV Nurses Day
JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Monday is National IV Nurses Day, which is the time to recognize the importance of infusion nurses.
That’s the focus of this week’s Fit and Well Idaho Report.
National IV Nurses Day was commemorated in 1980 by the U.S. House of Representatives. IV nurses specialize in giving medication through infusions and IVs and allow patients to continue with life and not have many interruptions. These can include blood transfusions, antibiotic infusions and more.
Morgan Brune, an infusion nurse at St. Luke’s, talked about why it is essential to recognize infusion nurses,
“Nurses work hard to take care of patients and that we have heart for serving others, so that in itself, it’s wonderful to be acknowledged… what we really want is that our patients be noticed, that they’re taking steps to take care of themselves and get better. And that we’re there to support them.”
Recently, St. Luke’s expanded its outpatient infusion services to Jerome as their services have grown.
