TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — On this day in 1895, the x-ray was discovered, paving the way for advancements in medical imaging science.

That is the focus of this week’s Fit and Well Idaho report.

At St. Luke‘s Magic Valley Medical Center, radiological technicians play a vital role in patients’ diagnosis, treatment, and care.

Over the years, medical imaging has progressed significantly, as MRIs, CT scans, and mammograms have become available to help detect health conditions and diseases.

We spoke with Megan Baker, a radiological technician at St. Luke’s, about her department’s impact on patient care.

“A lot of people don’t realize; we have hands in almost everything,” Baker said. “When everyone thinks of health care, they think of nurses, they think of doctors, they think of blood draws. But we play a crucial role in helping people figure out what is going on inside them.”

Radiological Technology Week is also a yearly event celebrating the X-ray’s discovery.
