Road crews working on clearing Idaho Route 21 near Grandjean
GRANDJEAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho Transportation Department is working on clearing up Idaho Route 21 to reopen the road during the week.
Road crews are working to clear the roads of snow, including a 40-foot-deep slide blocking a section of the highway, according to the transportation department.
The department closed Idaho Route 21 from Grandjean to Banner Summit back on Jan. 31 due to the avalanche danger in the surrounding area.
The department said it aims to reopen the section of highway by Monday afternoon or Tuesday. It plans to reassess road conditions at 7 a.m. on Monday.
Avalanche danger is listed as considerable for the majority of the Wood River Valley and Sawtooth Mountain areas, according to the Sawtooth Avalanche Center. The Banner Summit area is listed as moderate.
