Valley Lady Vikings’ smothering defense leads to first state semi-final appearance since 2009, Oakley Lady Hornets crush Wilder

MERIDIAN Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The No. 3 Valley Lady Vikings were the first area team to stamp its ticket to the semi-finals, beating No. 6 Lakeside 53-31.
Valley advances to the semifinals for the first time since 2009.
After shaking off first quarter nerves, the Vikings were all business.
Valley forced turnover after turnover with its impressive defense that led to easy points the other way. The Vikings had 26 steals in the win.
Balanced scoring from Valley as Lexi Huettig scored 12 and Joanie Lewis had 10. Seleni Sanchez added nine while Hailey Malone and Arellie Juarez had seven each.
The Vikings also got it done on the boards, out-rebounding Lakeside 46-32.
Valley will see No. 2 Prairie in the 2A state semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday at Columbia High School.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Oakley was a force to be reckoned with.
The Hornets take No. 8 Wilder 59-12 and advance to its second straight semi-final game.
Oakley will take on the winner of No. 4 Butte County and No. 5 Lapwai at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Columbia High School.
