CSI softball opens conference play with doubleheader wins over rivals North Idaho

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho softball team opened the conference season in style.

The CSI Golden Eagles (7-10, 2-0 SWAC) kicked off the conference season by taking both games of a doubleheader over in-state rivals North Idaho.

In game 1, CSI trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the 7th.

Lily Heitz tied the game with a two-run home run to center field. Abbie Banning would then crush a walk-off three-run home run as CSI won 8-5.

Heitz, Banning, and Rilyne Keck all had two hits in the win. Banning had three RBIs from her home run.

Eva Stoddard got the start inside the circle, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing six hits and four earned runs. She had eight strikeouts.

Emerson Fuller got the win for CSI.

Kimberly graduate Emily Hanchey got the start for North Idaho at second base and recorded a double in his first at-bat. She finished days 1-3.

Gooding graduate Maelynn Durham also plays for North Idaho.

Game two was all CSI.

The Golden Eagles run-ruled the Cardinals 9-1.

Adi Hansen was 3-3 from the plate with an RBI. Ava Howell had a two-run double, and Lily Heitz had a two-run single.

Ella Farrell got the win, pitching five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. She had four strikeouts in the win.

The CSI wraps up a four-game series with North Idaho on Saturday. Games are set for noon and 2 p.m.
