Jerome Tigers upset Minico, advances to state tournament for the first time since 2022

RUPERT, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Friday night hoops never disappoint!

The Jerome Tigers upset Minico 63-61 on the road Friday night to claim second place in the Great Basin Conference and stamp its ticket to the 5A State Tournament.

Jerome advances to the state tournament for the first time since 2022.

The Tigers lost the previous two meetings to the Spartans by 12 points each.

After scoring on the game’s first possession, Minico would go on a 10-0 run and build a 17-11 lead after a quarter.

Jerome responded with a 12-1 to start the second quarter and led by two points at the half.

The game was a dogfight and would be settled in overtime.

With second to go, Jerome was fouled and would knock down free throws to get a two-point lead.

Minico inbounded the ball but would turn it over with a double-dribble as time expired.

Senior AJ Johnson led the Tigers with 15 points while Seth Capps and Andrew Wilson had 12 each.

Logan Wayment had 15 for the Spartans. Nate Wayment scored 14, Bodee Bennett had 12, and Gage Murphy scored 10.

Jerome awaits the 5A selection on the seed the Tigers will be at the state tournament.
