Bulldog to Badger: Kimberly’s Mallory Kelsey signs with Snow College softball
KIMBERLY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — From a Bulldog to a Badger.
Kimberly senior Mallory Kelsey signed in front of friends, family, and coaches on Wednesday as she’ll play softball for Snow College.
“It’s rewarding after so many years of travel ball and all my hard work to be done with the recruitment process,” Kelsey told KMVT. “I’m ready to enjoy the rest of my senior year.”
Kelsey is a 2x Idaho 4A softball Player of the Year.
She helped Kimberly to its second straight state championship last year after having an impact both on the plate and in the circle. Kelsey led the team in hits (53) and doubles (16) while hitting 37 RBIs with a .495 batting average.
Inside the circle, she was 14-2 on the season with a 2.18 ERA, striking out 140 and walking 26 in 102 innings.
“She’s a great ambassador of Kimberly High School. She’s the type of person you wish all your student-athletes could be like,” Kimberly head softball coach Ryan Trappen said. “A great teammate, a great student, and super competitive. It’s going to be a special year, and I’m excited for her journey.”
Deciding to join the Badgers at Snow College was an easy choice.
‘I went on a couple visits, and the snow felt like home. I felt very welcomed by the coaches,” Kelsey said. “I really like the conference (Scenic West Athletic Conference) with CSI (College of Southern Idaho). It’s a great conference, and the goal is to end up in Idaho or Utah.”
The Badgers are in Ephraim, Utah, and they finished 33-27 (21-19 SWAC) in 2024. They are currently 5-10 in 2025 as of Feb. 26.
Kelsey was also a First-Team All-Conference and All-State volleyball player with the Bulldogs in the fall. Kimberly finished in third place at the state tournament.
However, she knew from a young age that softball was her calling.
“All my aunts loved softball, so I started playing. It’s a big family thing,” Kelsey explained. “It wasn’t until my freshman year when I played club ball that I thought I could play at the next level.”
As Kelsey looks to her senior season with the Bulldogs, she knows it won’t be easy for Kimberly to three-peat as state champions.
“The biggest thing is we have a big target on our backs,” Kelsey noted. “Every team will bring their best game when they play us, so we have to keep working hard and pushing.”
