Group files petition to change Idaho abortion laws in 2026

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — There’s now a new push to get abortion rights on the 2026 ballot in Idaho.
Idahoans United for Women and Families has filed a petition aimed at changing state abortion laws with the Secretary of State.
According to the coalition, they have filed four initiatives that the Attorney General’s Office will review.
Three policies would restore or protect reproductive freedoms. One would be to allow an abortion for up to 20 weeks with exceptions to protect the mother. The second is to allow an abortion for up to 24 weeks. The third would be up until the fetus is viable on its own except for emergencies. A fourth policy would legalize abortion in cases of rape, incest and fatal fetal anomaly.
The full breakdown can be found on Idahoan United’s website.
Attorney General Raúl Labrador has 20 days to provide a certificate of review and recommend any changes.
