TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The National Kids Mullet Competition is being held this week, and a local Idaho boy is in the race. When Tate Reeves was four, his uncle cut his hair into a fauxhawk.

“Business up front, party in the back,” his uncle jokingly told him.

Reeves loved his haircut so much that he started to dance around.

“Party in the back! Party in the back!” he sang.

As Reeves’ hair grew and he was ready for another haircut, he still wanted to keep his “party in the back” look. His parents let him continue growing his hair, which was forming curls that he loved. At this point, his hair grew much longer in the back and shorter in the front, slowly creating a mullet. Haircut after haircut, he made sure to keep his curls long.

Reeves can pull off many styles with his mullet, and it defines who he is. He gets compliments from people around town who recognize him just by his hair. Even his grandma, who initially asked when he would cut it, has now embraced his luscious hair.

Reeves had many medical challenges early in life but is a strong, intelligent fighter who has overcome them and has a passion for many things, including his hair.

After four years, he is still ecstatic about his hairstyle and has no plans to cut the “party in the back!”

Reeves, also known as “The Curly Tater,” loves Idaho and wants to make the finals for the National Kids Mullet Competition with the support of his hometown.

Votes can be cast here once every 24 hours until Wednesday, July 17.
