Dust control project on the Salmon River Road

SALMON, Idaho — The Salmon-Challis National Forest is currently performing preparatory work for the Salmon River Road Dust Control Project. Application of the Magnesium-Chloride is expected to begin on Wednesday, July 17 and be completed by Friday, July 19. Weather delays or unexpected delays in delivery of the dust control product could result in project extension beyond the planned completion date. Crews will be working extended hours and this coming weekend to complete the road preparation in advance of the product application.
Short traffic delays are possible. Road users should expect maintenance activities to be more intense with additional water trucks, heavy truck traffic, and equipment working the roads during the project. Work hours will likely be extended, and maintenance equipment may be encountered between dawn and dusk during the project. Reloading of spreader trucks may occur on the roadway and create short blockages of the roadway as there are very few locations where two trucks can pull completely off the roadway.
Roads may be very wet and slippery during the application process so please use caution as you travel through the project area. Slow speeds will enhance safety and reduce the amount of mud and chloride product that needs to be washed off the vehicles that travel through the project area.
The schedule is tentative and weather dependent. For more detailed information as the date approaches, please call the Public Lands Center in Salmon at 208-756-5100. If significant changes occur in the project timing, we will work post and inform the front desk at the Supervisor’s Office and the North Fork Ranger Station of the changes.
