LAS CRUCES, N.M. (CNN) – It’s a gruesome story out of New Mexico.

Joel Arciniega-Saenz has been found guilty of murdering 51-year-old James Garcia.

Arciniega-Saenz stabbed Garcia 84 times, cut off his head and then played soccer with it.

The incident happened in June 2021, according to the Doña Ana District Attorney’s Office.

Police say Arciniega-Saenz told them he was experiencing homelessness and slept at a Las Cruces park.

He said Garcia stole his belongings. When he confronted him, he took a knife from him, stabbed him and cut off his head.

Arciniega-Saenz will be sentenced at a later date.
