(InvestigateTV) — For couples who can’t conceive, a surrogate pregnancy could be the beacon of hope to grow their family.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the most common type of surrogacy is gestational surrogacy, where one person carries and delivers a child for another couple or person.

This is most often achieved through in-vitro fertilization or IVF.

As the technology developed, so did interest in the possibility of surrogate getting paid. According to the group Circle Surrogacy, first-time surrogates can earn $55K-$70K.

However, making money from a surrogate pregnancy is illegal in two states.

One of them is Louisiana, where a cheer coach wanted to grow her family by paying a surrogate but wasn’t allowed.
