JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A Heyburn man accused of running over his friend with his car is headed to prison.

22-year-old Braxton Streling pled guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter on Monday, in the death of 20-year-old Peyton Walton.

On September 16, 2023, Jerome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a fatal crash at 2650 East, 1200 South in Hazelton.

According to the police affidavit, Streling was camping with his parents and had some drinks.

He told police that Walton ran into a cornfield, and while waiting for Walton, he conducted reverse donuts with his car and that is apparently when he ran over him.

According to online records, Judge Rosemary Emory sentenced Streling to 15 years in prison, including seven years fixed. Streling’s license will also be suspended for 10 years.

Streling was also sentenced to 365 days in Retained Jurisdiction, which means he will remain in custody of the Department of Corrections and undergo treatment programs, according to the Jerome County Prosecutors Office. If he completes those programs, he can then report from the Department of Corrections and be eligible to receive Supervised Probation. He also has 3 days credit term for time in custody, according to court records.

He will additionally have to pay fines and restitution.
