Local business owner is facing felony charges
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A local business owner is facing a slew of felony charges following a raid late Wednesday morning.
Daniel Churchman is the owner of Churchman’s Jewelry on Main Avenue West.
On Wednesday, around noon, according to court documents obtained by KMVT, members of the Special Investigations Unit and other members of the Twin Falls Police Department served a search warrant to locate a specific item of jewelry or paperwork pertaining to the service agreement of said item.
Upon arriving, officers placed Churchman into custody, removed him from the business, and cleared the business and property of people. Once the officers started searching for the lost piece of jewelry, several jars of “green plant material” along with several scales and vacuumed sealed bags were found in a safe, as recorded in court documents.
The officer immediately recognized this was the trafficking of marijuana. Several pistols, rifles and shotguns were found in the safe with one shotgun appearing to have been cut to a shorter length than the factory standard.
Officers began working on a search warrant to search the business for drugs. Marijuana was found throughout the business and in total, there was 11.7 pounds.
Display cases next to the cash register and next to the safe, held smoking devices that were to be sold to the public.
The jewelry that was listed on the original search warrant was found.
Churchman was advised he would be charged and booked on trafficking marijuana, manufacturing drug paraphernalia with the intent to distribute and possessing drug paraphernalia with the intent to distribute. He is also facing a charge of felony grand theft for the jewelry.
Churchman is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 14 at 8:15 a.m.
