Utah State University to become seventh member of new Pac-12 Conference
Aggies will join Boise State and three other Mountain West schools in conference beginning in 2026.
LOGAN, Utah (KMVT/KSVT) — In college sports realignment news, the future of the Mountain West Conference is in serious jeopardy after Utah State University became the seventh member of the new Pac-12 Conference.
The Associated Press reported Monday that Utah State will join as the conference’s seventh all-sports member in 2026, with the Pac-12 also exploring Gonzaga as a basketball only member.
The Pac-12 would still need one more team in football to be an FBS conference as NCAA rules state conferences need at least eight teams to be recognized.
For the pac-12 the deadline is 2026, however the Mountain West would have until 2028 to do so.
This leaves the future of Mountain West football in a precarious position as only six schools are committed for the 2026 season as sources are also reporting that UNLV is also exploring conference realignment options.
The Aggies will join Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State and Fresno State as the schools that have jumped from the Mountain West to Pac-12.
