TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Members of the Magic Valley community came together in Twin Falls on Monday to protest Trump administration policies and federal worker cuts.

At noon, Indivisible Twin Falls County Idaho organized a Presidents Day protest at Twin Falls City Hall. The protest comes amid a nationwide demonstration by the 50501 Movement, which targets the “antidemocratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration.”

Many of the protesters were concerned about the cuts to federal workers. Lori Egan, who used to work for the military, wasn’t happy about the massive culling of people’s jobs.

“Most federal workers are not out to screw Americans, they are here to serve Americans,” Egan said. “The government’s supposed to be for the people and by the people.”

Protesters began at City Hall and marched to the intersection of Shoshone Street N. and Main Ave S. The group then marched back to City Hall and moved to the Five Points intersection.

Participants marched with signs such as “fire Musk” and “this system has failed us.” Some drivers honked their horns while driving by, while one car with Trump decorations drove by the protesters several times.

Kevin Moxley, a veteran and one of the protest organizers, was concerned about how the cuts would impact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“They fired a thousand VA staff,” Moxley said. “It’s already an understaffed department. There are a lot of veterans that need a lot more help than I do.”

It was not just federal-level issues people were concerned about; some were there because of state-level problems, including school choice.

“I’m concerned about the vouchers for one thing, we’ve always had a budget issue in Idaho we’re always right down at the bottom,” said Wendy French, a Boulle resident. “As far as per pupil funding, we’re at the bottom. And the vouchers I’m concerned about, that is going to make it even harder for public schools.”

Organizers said they will continue to hold more protests as long as the current administration is in charge.
