TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — On Sunday night, the Magic Valley Hispanic community came together to advocate for immigrant rights.

More than one hundred people lined the sidewalk at the intersection ad, advocating for immigrants. The protest aimed to advocate for them and their families and show them they are not alone.

Protesters talked about how they believed immigrants were essential to the community and the contributions they made.

“People don’t realize almost all the groceries in our stores are picked by immigrants,” one protester said. “My parents even took us in summers in Oregon and we would pick fruit with our family. It’s a hard job, it’s not easy and you have to you know it takes dedication. You have to be up early hours in the morning before the sun’s out. People don’t realize all the hard work that goes into it, and it’s not just the people picking the fruit, it’s the people transporting the fruit from Mexico across the border.”

She also expressed how proud she was of all the people who came out to support her.

KMVT talked to the event organizers about why they decided to plan it.

“To speak out for everybody else, you know, they’re part of our lives and, you know, my mom’s Mexican,” one organizer said. “I’m doing it for her because she’s been here for a while. But we have a voice, and we want to be heard.”

The protest was attended by not only immigrants but other community members.

Some cars passed by, honking their horns and waving Mexican flags.
