Governor Little in Twin Falls to promote his 2025 'Keeping Promises' Plan
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Governor Brad Little delivered his Annual State of the State and Budget Address last Monday. In that plan he highlighted his goal to continue to prioritize education, safety, our economy and natural resources.
On Wednesday -- he brought the same message to the College of Southern Idaho.
“They want to have good schools for their kids, they want to have good career opportunities, they want to have good roads, they want to have good access to the outdoors, along with good health care that are going to make our children choose to stay in Idaho,” says Governor Little.
As the governor looks to promote his goals for the upcoming year -- not all lawmakers agree on his priorities. Democratic State Senator Ron Taylor represents District 26, which covers from Jerome up to Sun Valley. He says lawmakers need to focus on legislation that helps Idahoans, not hurt them.
“Take for instance healthcare, when legislatures tell a profession what they can or cannot do, what they’re trained to do, it just creates a lot of undue problems,” says Taylor.
State Senator Taylor also talked his concerns about the proposed school voucher system.
“We have school of choice in Idaho but a school voucher by any other name will create a negative impact on our public school system and hurt our rural community and it’s creating a problem we don’t need, and financially down the road it will be insurmountable,” says Taylor.
Governor Little says that he understands where state democrats are coming from.
“I listen to them; they ask me questions during those meetings, and I ask them questions, so they are being heard,” says Governor Little.
The governor adds that he’s had conversations about making Medicaid more efficient and affordable. As far as education, he also plans to prioritize an additional $50 million to support education freedom.
“You think it will create a better opportunity for kids to choose to stay, then you’re making the right decision,” says Governor Little.
