TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) has begun the second phase of treatment for the quagga mussel invasion.

The treatment being used is potassium chloride which is commonly known as potash. This is a spot treatment for specific areas disconnected from the river such as still water, deep pools and waterfalls. According to the ISDA, this has been proven to kill mussels in as little as two days. ISDA has also stated the chemical should be relatively safe for native aquatic life.

The treatment will not impact public access to the Twin Falls area but mandatory decontamination is still in place between Broken Bridge and Hansen Bridge.
