Quagga Mussel Treatment Underway on the Snake River

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Wednesday marked day two of quagga mussel treatment on the Snake River. The Idaho Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and several other agencies are working diligently to combat the invasive species, similar to last year, which required significant effort to reach the same point.
While other states that have discovered quagga waited months to start treatment, Idaho agencies started two weeks after they were detected. Approximately 300 people are stationed around the clock to ensure the treatment is working. The ISDA researched the most effective product for eliminating the quagga and incorporated recommendations from manufacturers on the best way to rid the mussel while retaining the rivers health.
Parts of the river remain closed as a precaution, but the department says it is safe and will not impact drinking water. More information about the product and its impacts can be found on the ISDA’s website.
