Quagga mussels detected again in Snake River
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) announced Tuesday that it has detected a small number of quagga mussels in the Twin Falls area of the Snake River.
Recent favorable detection locations include the Shoshone Falls Pool, Pillar Falls, and the Twin Falls Reservoir behind the Twin Falls Hydroelectric Facility.
However, the ISDA does not expect significant impacts to the public.
In 2023, the ISDA treated the river with a chelated copper product.
Since then, more than 300 samples have been taken in the affected stretch of the river.
Access to the Snake River at Centennial Park remains open with mandatory inspection and decontamination for all watercraft.
Pillar Falls to Twin Falls dam is closed.
An additional temporary closure from Pillar Falls to Auger Falls will occur in mid-October for approximately 15 days to facilitate treatment.
