Las Vegas, Nevada (KMVT/KSVT) — A 47-year-old Idaho Falls man that served 20 years behind bars for crimes he didn’t commit, died on November 5, 2023, and now his death is now being investigated as a murder.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement this week saying they have learned there was a fight inside Tapp’s hotel room the night he died.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has since ruled the 47-year-old’s death a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Tapp was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital in October of this last year.

Tapp was an eastern Idaho man who was wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of Angie Dodge and spent 20 years behind bars, before successfully suing the City of Idaho Falls and the Idaho Falls Police Department.

CBS affiliate Local News 8 in Idaho Falls talked to the family and in part this is what they had to say. “We truly appreciate all the love and support that we have received and continue to receive.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
