BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A man who served as one of the jurors in the murder trial of Lori Vallow Daybell plans to attend Chad Daybell’s trial as it begins in Ada County.

As CBS affiliate KBOI reported, Tom Evans was Juror Number 18 and was one of the 12 jurors who found Lori Vallow Daybell guilty of murdering her two children, 7-year-old Joshua “J.J.” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, and conspiracy to commit the murder of J.J., Tylee and Tammy Daybell, her husband’s former wife.

Jury selection in the trial of Chad Daybell, Lori Vallow Daybell’s husband, began Monday morning.

He faces similar charges including the murder of Tammy Daybell. Evans had never served on a jury when he was summoned to the Ada County Courthouse in April of 2023 and knew little about the Daybell case.

“It has been a year to reflect on that and I thought about what I went through not just during the trial,” said Evans. “But over the past year and I am concerned about the jurors now and what they’re going to have to go through specially since this one is a death penalty case”

Evans says feels for the jurors, as they will determine whether Chad will get the death penalty if he is found guilty. He said if the death penalty were an option for Lori, he would have sentenced her to death.

In Chad’s case, not only will the jury decide his guilt, but also his sentence if convicted.

“It was a lot of things it started out being real heavy and dark and a lot of responsibility I think toward the end it turned more into I was honored to do my part,” he said.

Lori faces more murder charges in Arizona for the death of her previous husband Charles Vallow and trying to kill her niece’s former husband Brandon Boudreaux. A trial date in Arizona has not yet been set.
