Kohberger in court Wednesday, judge to possibly decide when and where the trial will be held
MOSCOW, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Bryan Kohberger, 29, who has been charged with allegedly killing four University of Idaho Students in November of 2022, is due back in court tomorrow for a hearing where the judge could decide when and where Kohberger will stand trial.
The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. PST, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Latah County Courthouse. Judge John C. Judge is expected to issue rulings on several topics that include when the trial will begin, and whether he will allow the jury trial to be moved to an alternate venue.
Back on January 30, Kohberger’s lawyers filed for a motion of a change of venue, arguing that it would be impossible to get a fair and impartial jury in Latah County due to media coverage of the case and the small population.
The prosecution objected to the motion on February 8, arguing the request was premature, and the defense did not provide adequate information to back their claim, noting the Idaho Supreme Court explained that “publicity by itself does not require a change of venue.”
During the last hearing, the defense asked for a summer 2025 trial, arguing the large volume of discovery items would be impossible to sort through in time to make the 2024 date the prosecution pushed for.
The defense said it could be ready by March of 2025 if all went well with discovery going forward.
