Wood River boys soccer hands Century first loss; Saturday's soccer scores
HAILEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Wood River Wolverines boys soccer team entered Saturday with only one loss, their opponents, the Century Diamondbacks, entered the game undefeated, and in a battle of two 4A soccer heavyweights Wood River prevailed 5-3.
The Wolverines opened the scoring with a goal from Alberto Romo off an outstanding cross from Jackson Wallace.
Century responded with a penalty kick goal before the Wolverines would get the offense going and get the next three.
It started with senior Owen Walker not giving up on a corner kick and being rewarded on the third effort to regain the lead, Erick Barriga added the second on a free kick and misplay from the Century keeper and finally Andres Hernandez wired a free kick just outside the box past the keeper to put the Wolverines up 4-1 at half.
Century would score the next two goals cutting the Wood River lead to one, but from there the Wolverines defense clamped down and even led to another goal from Reidar Slotten off a nice feed from Jack Tierney on the wing.
Wood River improves to 12-1 and have proven themselves as one of teams in 4A boys soccer as their quest for back-to-back state titles continues.
