CSI women's basketball survives overtime scare from Mesa Community College
MESA, Arizona (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team picked up a road win against the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds to start the four-game road trip off on the right foot.
CSI was up by one at the half and these two teams were never really able to separate from one another all day long.
CSI started slow in the first quarter trailing by as many as nine before a solid second quarter from Samara Morrow and Alina Sapilak brought the Golden Eagles back in it, and even had a one point halftime lead.
The second half was about as back and forth as it gets and a 10-point fourth quarter from Mariah Mons send this game to overtime tied at 56.
In the overtime neither team would shoot the ball well as just one field goal was made in the frame by Mesa, but Kennedy Gillette sunk two free throws and with 12 seconds to go Macie Brown hit what would be the game-winning free throw after missing the first.
Mesa had four chances to win it at the rim at the end of overtime, but missed each one as CSI hung on for the win.
Up next the Golden Eagles are right back in action tomorrow against No. 17 Arizona Western College.
