Why not both: Twin Falls’ Tiffany Humpherys signs to be dual-sport athlete at Oregon Tech
This wasn’t a typical college signing, however, as she will be a dual collegiate athlete playing both soccer and running track & field.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Twin Falls senior Tiffany Humpherys has signed to continue her academic and athletic career with the Oregon Institute of Technology.
This wasn’t a typical college signing, however, as she will be a dual collegiate athlete playing both soccer and running track & field.
Humpherys is a standout runner, which includes back-to-back 4x400 relay state champions in 2022 and 2023 and being a state runner-up in the 400 meter in 2023.
She knew she wanted to run track in college, but something resonated with her to continue playing soccer, the sport she’s played since she was four years old.
“At the beginning of the season, I knew I was never putting on those cleats again,” Humpherys said. “Towards the end of the season, however, I got offered to do both and had to take it. I was four years old when I put my first cleats on, and I knew I couldn’t end it now.”
She competes for the Idaho Dash track club in Boise, where she must travel 3-4 times a week.
She is a 4x All-American and has qualified and metaled in a handful of elite competitions, including the Simplot Games Nike Indoor Nationals, Nike Outdoor Nationals, and the AAU Jr Olympic Games.
In soccer, she’s just as talented.
She’s a two-time all-Great Basin Conference selection, including three conference titles and a state championship in 2021.
This past fall, her two goals over Canyon Ridge secured her third title with the Bruins.
She fell in love with Oregon Tech because she could be as career-focused as athletically focused.
“I talked to some colleges that told me I couldn’t run with and do the program I set out to do,” Humpherys said. “Oregon Tech said I could do exactly that. They focus on their goals and future goals at Oregon Tech, and I really enjoyed that.”
Humpherys wants to go into radiology, as she wants to help people in their first steps to recovery from injuries, just like she had to go through with injuries.
We can’t wait to watch her compete in two sports seasons... Starting next fall.
