Salute to Idaho Agriculture: Supply chain grants
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded $5.5 million for different agriculture projects around Idaho.
The goal? To help boost the infrastructure of Idaho’s food supply chain.
Chenel Tewalt, Director of the Idaho Department of Agriculture, said this is an excellent opportunity for the gem state.
“We really were intent on trying to use this unique funding opportunity,” Tewalt said. “We don’t get this kind of money very often in the state, to benefit as many people and many different commodities around the state as we could.”
The IDA released applications for companies to receive some of this grant funding.
When it came time to choose the companies that would be awarded, Tewalt said they tried to make it as widely available.
“From smaller sized operations to much more well known larger operations, and that’s true up north as well on the east side of the state where we were able to do some targeted projects in communities, as they don’t always get to have something like this.”
Ultimately, the IDA chose 27 projects they hope will help create economic opportunities for local communities.
