BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Here in the Magic Valley the wind can be pretty brutal at times, but a windbreak can make all the difference in your yard and that’s the focus of this week’s Salute to Idaho Agriculture.

The Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Cassia and Minidoka Counties are offering seedling trees for property owners to get a head start on their windbreak or property border.

The districts are selling them in bundles of five for $20 plus tax and there are six different varieties of tree available.

Two poplars, an aspen, a spruce, a juniper and pine.

In addition to the trees there are eight different species of shrubs available for purchase as well, but why else would property owners want these trees or shrubs?

“To help landowners install windbreaks and beautification projects, privacy hedges. Things that will assist and help improve the value of their property. They can be used to stop blowing snow and blowing dust. Maybe down a lane or somewhere where they need protection from the elements,” said Doreen McMurray, Information and Education Specialist at East and West Cassia Soil and Water Conservation District.

Trees will be available until they sell out so act fast because certain varieties will sell quicker than others.
