TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — This week’s Fit & Well Idaho News Report is on National Blood Donors Month and how participants can help save a life by donating blood.

St Luke’s magic Valley partners really close with American Red Cross for blood donations. The hospital depends on people to donate blood to the foundation so that Red Cross can, in turn, provide units to St. Luke facilities for patients in need.

The month of January is National Blood Donor Month, and St. Lukes is urging Magic Valley to come out and donate blood. According to St. Luke’s, The American Red Cross had its lowest amount of donations in a 20-year period and are really in need of donors.

“At St Luke’s Magic Valley, we keep about 60 units of blood in our inventory at all times so that we can service the community. We actually transfuse around 1,500 units annually to our patients, and around 800 patients that we have come through our hospital doors here,” said ST Luke’s Laboratory Supervisor, Steve Turner.

Visit redcrossboold.org to sign up to donate at one of the local blood drives. Also, if you donate in the month of February, you can receive an Amazon gift card. Drinks and Snacks will also be provided at donation locations.
