McCarthy, Patsy Ruth Ozancin
January 12, 2025, Age 91

GOODING, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT)—Patsy Ruth Ozancin McCarthy received her angel wings and left to be with her beloved husband Bob, her parents, son Johnny, and many other family members whom she missed dearly.
She was born on June 2, 1934, in Bingham, Utah. Her parents are Louis and Ruth Ozancin. She married Robert McCarthy when she was 17 years old. They were married for 63 years before his passing. They had three children - Johnny, Kathy, and Joe.
She was raised in the mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah, where her parents had a vast orchard, vegetable gardens, flower gardens, and berry patches. She worked hard helping her parents raise and pick the produce, selling it, and giving it to those in need. With her family, she skied, canned, cooked, sewed, and made homemade noodles, bread, rolls, and scones, all while attending college and working at the school.
She met her husband - Bob, at the Canyon Inn - a restaurant her parents owned at the mouth of the Big Cottonwood Canyon. They were married in 1951. While she was still in High School, he left for the Korean War. When he came home, he built them a beautiful home where they lived until moving to Gooding, Idaho, in 1971, where they fulfilled their lifelong dream of owning a farm. They loved that place, their kids, grandkids, dogs, cats, horses, horse racing, chariot racing, and many friends and neighbors.
She often said, “If God told her she had won the lottery and could choose any life she wanted, it would be the one she already had.” She felt so grateful and blessed.
She worked at the IGA, Beacon Bean, in the harvest and school lunch programs. She was an extremely hard worker who made huge meals every day for family, extended family, and friends. She worked all day and then came home. Sometimes, she worked on the tractor all night with my dad so he wouldn’t get baled up. She was so amazing that words cannot do her justice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Johnny; parents, Louis and Ruth; brother, Lindy; and sister, Donna.
She is survived by her daughter - Kathy (Kent) Benson; son - Joe McCarthy; her daughter-in-law – Timmi McCarthy, as well as grandchildren - Tammy (Robert), Shane (Tiffany), Casey (Chelsey), Kelsea (Bubba), Megan (Jon), Chad (Anna), Jake (Brigette), Morgan (Ryan), and Brandy; and great-grandchildren - Trevor, Kiera, Taylor, Savanah, Emma Ruth, Avery, Ivy, Kinsley, Isabella, Clay, Amme, Cade, Aniah, Jordan, Haley, Novalee, Angel; and her sister - Roberta.
Thank you, Mom, for teaching us the value of hard work, unconditional love, kindness, giving, quiet strength, and perseverance. Thank God for blessing us with her presence.
The family would like to offer many thanks to the staff at Hospice Visions for their loving care of our mother.
