BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A 23-year-old man is in custody following a high-speed chase in Burley on Sunday.

Around 7 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a call of a stolen vehicle, according to the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office.

A blue sedan was taken from Bobcat Corner in Burley while the vehicle owner was inside the convenience store.

Deputies located the vehicle near 700 West on Highway 30 a few hours later, according to the sheriff’s office.

When they initiated a traffic stop, the man, now identified as Juan Sarao Montejo, fled.

Deputies said they pursued him throughout the county.

“Being that it was seven in the morning, traffic was kind of light, but it started to pick up,” said Sergeant Michael Phillips. “Deputies decided to wait and try to find the car later and they discontinued the pursuit. I believe it was within an hour or so they relocated the suspect.”

According to Phillips, deputies found Montejo around 10 a.m. near a home at 550 East in Cassia County.

He was booked on several felony charges and for driving under the influence.

The sheriff’s office also said the suspect had a few warrants out for his arrest before the pursuit happened.
