An update on the criminal court cases KMVT is following regarding individuals facing charges of violent crimes

Multiple violent crime related cases are moving through the Twin Falls and Jerome County court systems. Here is a brief update on the cases KMVT is following.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Here is an update to all of the court cases KMVT is following regarding individuals that are facing charges related to first-degree murder in Southern Idaho.

Brandalyn Michelle Maglaughlin of Jerome, formerly of Hermiston, Oregon, has been charged with felony aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon, felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony unlawful discharge of a weapon at an occupied dwelling, felony malicious injury to property, and felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon regarding an incident on December 26, 2023, for stabbing and shooting Marvin Lamm at a residence in Jerome County. She is still in custody of Jerome County and had been ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment after the incident.

Court records show that on March 4, 2024, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare was to give a report regarding Maglaughlin’s mental status. On Tuesday, March 5, the court filed an order ending commitment pursuant to Idaho Code 18-212 and ordered transport for Maglaughlin.

KMVT has filed a public records request, and we are waiting for the documents.

Angelica Maria Martinez, who has been charged in the double homicide at the Tint Shop V on December 1, 2023, that resulted in the death of Jaime Bravo Rodriguez, 26, and Jesse Ortiz-Meda, 36, has her next court date is on Monday, March 11th at 4pm for a scheduling conference.

She is facing two counts of first-degree murder, the two other men who were seen on security footage shooting Meda and Rodriquez are presumed to be in Mexico, as Martinez stated in her interviews with law enforcement that the two men, “El Guero” and “El Diablo” had her drive them to Mexico and then told her they no longer needed her services. Their whereabouts are still unknown, if you have any information please contact the Twin Falls Police Department.

Kevin Kuintzle and Erika Brock, who have both been charged in the death of Jerome County resident William “Bill” Eakin, 84, are due in court in March. Kuintzle is facing charges of first-degree murder, burglary, grand theft and two counts of destruction of evidence, and is due back in court for a status conference at 2pm on March 13, 2024, at the Jerome County Courthouse.

While Erika Brock, who is facing possession of a stolen vehicle, evidence destruction and accessory charges is due back at the Jerome County Courthouse for a preliminary hearing at 9am on March 28, 2024.

Mi’Quavis Taylor, 18, who is the alleged suspect in the in the shooting that happened in the parking lot of Target on Nov. 15, 2023; and the alleged suspect, along with Kaden Thomson, 18, in the shooting death of Freddy Rodriguez at his home in the early morning hours of Nov. 16, 2023, waived their right to a preliminary hearing which was scheduled on Monday, March 4.

However, both are due back at the Twin Falls County Courthouse on March 15, at 8:15 a.m. in front of Judge Campbell for what is slated as a preliminary hearing, as it appears, the state will be allowing for a capitol qualified attorney to represent the teens, in what could be a death penalty case.

Chad Daybell, 55, and his attorney John Prior are gearing up for his jury trial as Daybell faces three counts of first-degree murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of criminal conspiracy and two counts of insurance fraud.

All related to the death of his wife Tammy Daybell, of which he could face the death penalty; and the death of his current wife’s two children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and J.J. Vallow, 7. Their bodies were found buried on Daybell’s property just outside of Rexburg in June of 2020.

There has been a flurry of orders and motions as the state as well as the defense prepare for the Jury trial, to include a “Brief in Support of Motion for Introduction of Statement of Tammy Daybell”, orders to expedite hearings as well as many motions to seal. The trial is scheduled to begin on April 1, in Ada County with jury selection and is expected to last six weeks.
