From injury to triumph: Filer’s Reese Hills signs with CSI volleyball
She called the moment surreal to sign in front of her friends and family as she traded out her red, white, and blue colors for her new black and gold threads.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho volleyball team continues to add top-notch local talent to its team.
Filer senior Reese Hills made it official on Wednesday and announced she’ll be playing for the Golden Eagles.
She called the moment surreal to sign in front of her friends and family as she traded out her red, white, and blue colors for her new black and gold threads.
Picking CSI was an easy choice for hills. Growing up in the area, attending the camps, and having family ties to the program.
“I wanted to play there since I was five years old,” Hills told KMVT. “I went and watched my cousin (Kristen Brandsma) win the national championship and I’ve wanted to play for CSI ever since then. Black and Gold have been my go-to colors from that point.”
Brandsma won the 2012 NJCAA National Championship with CSI.
Hills mentioned Filer football coach Justin Brandsma as being a huge help in her volleyball career.
“He would help me write every email to coaches and help me become a better athlete in the weight room,” Hills said.
She was named the Filer MVP and Offensive Player of the Year for the Wildcats.
Hills was also named an SCIC First-Team member.
The middle hitter had 189 kills to go along with 29 aces, 63 digs, and 38 blocks on the year.
It makes it all the more impressive doing this off an injury, which made her future questionable.
Hills had knee surgery putting her volleyball career on pause.
Wednesday’s signing made it all the more special.
“Coming off the knee surgery, I didn’t even know if it was possible to play at the college level,” Hills told KMVT. “I always knew it was a dream of mine and so I worked super hard to get it. “Seeing me grow as just an athlete has been super cool.”
She worked for it and earned it.
Hills joins Kimberly’s Emerson Heatwole in signing with the Golden Eagles.
