Behind the Business: Moss Greenhouse
JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Believe it or not, but gardening season is fast approaching. One business in Jerome has everything you need to help you with your planting this year. This week’s Behind the Business takes us to Moss Greenhouse.
Digging in the dirt is shown to have many health benefits, from relieving stress, boosting your mood and connecting you to the world around you. At Moss Greenhouse in Jerome, they are there to help you with the process.
“Our goal is to always make sure there is a gardener in every household, whether that is houseplants, tomatoes on the patio, flowerpots on your table for Easter, doesn’t really matter, as long as someone is digging in the dirt we win, we don’t care if it’s necessarily our plants, we want everyone to succeed,” said Jennifer Moss, the owner of Moss Greenhouse.
Moss Greenhouse located at 269 South 300 East in Jerome has been a part of the Magic Valley since 1952. Jennifer Moss and her brother are the fourth generation to run the business.
“Going into generation four, my brother and I took over in an official capacity in 2022, CVODI really helped our entire industry, plants became toilet paper, and everybody was a gardener,” said Moss.
From March through July, Moss Greenhouse is open to help you find hanging baskets, vegetable and fruit plants, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and other outdoor accessories to help spruce up your backyard, but they also support other retailers as well.
“We are primarily wholesale, so we are the grower, you won’t see very many plants in this greenhouse that aren’t ours, period, end of story, but really work to support the local retailers, so that they are succeeding as well,” said Moss.
Moss Greenhouse opened for the season on March 9 and are open now Monday through Saturday from 10:00 to 5:00 through April, then they will be open Monday through Saturday 9:00 to 5:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00 through July.
They have some new additions this year like an educational potting plant station, and they will be the location for the Jerome Farmer’s Market as well beginning in June.
“There is something fun that we are going to have that not a lot of people know about, it won’t happen until about May, but we are one of two locations in the country that is going to have a glow in the dark petunia, go to light.bio online and we are going to have those firefly petunias’ that glow in the dark,” said Moss.
So, whether you are a novice gardener or an expert, Moss Greenhouse is there to help make your yard gorgeous.
