Fit and Well Idaho: Drunken driving
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Now that Christmas is over, people look forward to the new year’s festivities.
But this holiday can unfortunately attract an increased number of drunken drivers.
That’s the focus of this week’s Fit and Well Idaho report.
An estimated of about 179 people in the U.S. could die on the road during New Year’s, according to the National Safety Council.
When motorists drive impaired, they’re not only putting themselves in danger but also other innocent people on the road.
Stan Flint from Magic Valley Paramedics said local authorities really start noticing impaired driving during the holiday season, as early as Thanksgiving.
“People don’t plan ahead, OK? They do not plan for a designated driver,” Flint said. “That’s the biggest problem they think I’ve had a couple of drinks, I can drive. Buzzed driving is drunk driving. That’s what they’ve told us over and over.”
No matter how much or how little you’ve drank, always try to have a designated driver to avoid impaired driving.
