Fit and Well: New ventilators for paramedics
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — For first responders, every minute counts in an emergency, and having the most up-to-date equipment can make all the difference.
In this week’s Fit and Well Idaho, we will examine how new ventilators will help Magic Valley Paramedics.
This new equipment upgrade will be on every Magic Valley ambulance and one for the supervisor on duty.
Paramedics staff have been trained on the new equipment, which they say will improve the overall care of the patient.
EMS Manager Stan Flint explained how ventilators are used in several different emergencies.
“What we use these for are to help ventilate patients after a critical intervention, such as an intubation, where we put the tube down their throat to breathe for them. It also provides CPAP or BiPAP support for people who are having trouble breathing.”
Prior to this, paramedics often used manual bag valve masks, which are not as efficient as the new ventilators.
