Fit and Well: Hearing Loss
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —Older adults are at risk for hearing loss, and doctors say they should get their hearing tested more frequently.
Experts say age related hearing loss is a result of biological changes in the body and noise accumulation over the years.
Hearing loss can start off gradual, but depending on how severe it becomes, it can impact your quality of life.
Keeley Coffee, an audiologist at Saint Lukes, talks about some signs to watch out for, “Difficult to hearing soft voices or high-pitched voices like children or women, you may feel like you’re missing out on different parts of words or just missing words completely and your brain has to almost work in overtime to fill in the blanks. It may sound like somebody is mumbling, that speech clarity isn’t really there. A lot of people will also notice that you’re turning their volume up louder on the TV.”
Ages that hearing loss can affect you can vary. According to experts, at the age of 65, 1 out of 3 people experience hearing loss; at 75, 1 out of people suffer from it.
