Fit & Well: How to keeps kids safe during sports
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — According to Stanford Medicine, more than 775,000 children get hurt playing sports annually.
So, how could children be kept safe when participating in sports or activities?
After months of not training, experts say one of the best ways to prevent injuries is to warm up before any workout.
Warming up helps with loosening muscles that can prevent strains and sprains.
After practice or exercising, icing can help reduce inflammation and resetting for the following days.
Dr. Luke Sugden, from St. Luke’s Sports Medicine, discussed when to see a doctor.
" The injury you sustained was more of this sudden tearing sensation or a pop sensation, and now it’s hard for you to use the extremity like you can’t walk on your leg or ‘I can’t throw the way I used to,’” Dr. Sugden said. “I would have a higher level for being seen with that and get that evaluated prior to just treating that one by yourself at home.”
Dr. Sugden also says that people who have asthma should keep their inhalers on them, as poor air quality can worsen the symptoms.
